What is Crowdfunding at RIT?

RIT’s Crowdfunding program empowers students, alumni, faculty, and staff to raise funds for student projects/clubs/organizations, research, programs and scholarships. The platform is an easy-to-use tool to collect gifts, build cause awareness, and connect socially. Project teams will receive training and assistance from the Annual Giving program throughout the process. Campaigns typically last 30 days.

What can I fundraise for and who can become a fundraiser?

Students, Family, Alumni, Faculty, and Friends can all fundraise for RIT-related expenses associated with class projects, club events, scholarships, and other approved activities. A team must consist of at least 3 individuals.

How do I get started?

Click register (link to registration page) to begin your crowdfunding campaign. You will receive your own personal page and tools to help you maximize your success.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

All funds received will be deposited with and distributed through RIT, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Your contribution may be considered a charitable contribution. Please consult your tax adviser regarding the deductibility of charitable contributions.

What happens if a campaign doesn’t meet its funding goal?

If a project does not meet its funding goal, collected funds may still be used to support the current project or other initiatives within the program.

What happens if a campaign is overfunded?

If a project exceeds its funding goal, additional project funds beyond the stated goal amount may be used towards the project. Any funds available after the project ends may be used to benefit other projects within the program.

How does the group spend the funds after the campaign?

Each project team must work with the budget manager of their college or department who is responsible for ensuring that funds are spent in accordance to Rochester Institute of Technology’s requirements and guidelines.

Are there any fees for project groups?

There are no fees for project groups to use RIT’s Crowdfunding platform.
